Learning how to play the Takenoko board game is very easy, and so is setting it up. You’ll enjoy the experience even before playing, when you see the beautiful and fun colourful game pieces! Throughout the game, players take turns rolling the weather dice and taking two actions. The actions are anything from moving the panda, placing a new garden plot tile down, enlisting the help of the Imperial Gardener, and so on. The actions are taken in an effort to achieve the goal listed on each player’s objective cards, which include Gardener Objectives, Panda Objectives, and Plot Objectives. The game follows a logical process, where the bamboo tiles must be laid down first, next the water and the gardener must be brought in help the plant grow. Lastly, the panda must wait for the bamboo to grow big enough to eat! This logical approach helps players to understand the aim and flow of the game, making it easy for anyone to learn.

Throughout playing the Takenoko game, you’ll notice that at times, one player’s actions may actually help another player reach their objective as well. It’s a way of playing both against and with one another simultaneously! Perhaps one of the most enjoyable aspects of playing Takenoko is watching the beautiful bamboo garden grow as you and your fellow game players build onto the beautiful 3D sculpture. Add a bit of Giant Panda and bamboo gardening into your game night with the Takenoko board game, and you won’t be disappointed!
